I don’t know about you, but I’m certainly ready for a break. I’m not sure where October went, and now we’re nearly halfway through November as I write this, and I’m not sure where November went either.
It seems the days get shorter and faster all at the same time.
But it speaks to the busyness of the season, to the running around from place to place, to the juggling of meetings and events and family time and work life. And yet, we’re still in this season of anticipating even more of that.
There’s nothing like waiting and anticipation and being hopeful for whatever is coming or happening next, and sometimes, we just want that time to be here so we can experience it and get over it.
It’s hard to go into the holiday season exhausted. I’m not sure if anyone else feels like that other than me, but that’s where I am. As though every minute and crevice of time has already been filled for the next six weeks.
And yet, all I remember is the passage of scripture that reminds me to take a moment and to put it all in God’s hands. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
When I lived in Montana, I used to participate in Handel’s Messiah every year as a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity. The melodic tones will continue to ring through my mind for the upcoming weeks as a strong reminder that Jesus is here with me.
