Sometimes when we come to this time of the year, we’re just trying to keep our heads above water. The urge is to be overwhelmed with the world and what’s going on in it, to be overwhelmed with the long list of tasks and things that need to be done.
For me, as pastor, this is the prime time for detail planning on Advent. It’s a few months away, but this is when I start to get into the detail planning of the services. This is also when I start the more in depth planning for the upcoming year and what we’ll study, what we’ll plan to learn, and more.
This passage of scripture is one that was used at my ordination, but it’s also one that has always spoken to me. From 1 Corinthians 15, “…be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.”
The work that we do, the planning, the random things that come up in the life of ministry, always need to be centered on God. When we strive and seek Christ first, the answers will come, the glory of God will arrive, and the kindom of God will abound.
When we focus on God, we find wondrous things happen. Things we could never explain before, things we never thought possible, friendships, family, people we never knew existed. When we focus on God, when we’re steadfast in our work, when we strive and seek Christ first, amazing, extraordinary things will happen.
So what are we doing this month?
