THRIVING CONGREGATIONS

The Thriving congregations team met as a whole with all the other team members (clergy and laity) from the 15 participating congregations. We’re working hard on putting together a grant proposal for $750.00 with a focus on mission and vision, something that we can do and accomplish in the next 6 months.
As there have been many conversations and wonderings about how we are thriving as First Christian Church in Cheyenne, WY, we’ve been digging deeper into exactly what this means.
One thing we have learned is that “thriving congregations are connected to their mission and vision. Congregations that thrive understand who they are called to be in this time and place. Lay people as well as pastors know the congregation’s values. Without a sense of who the congregation is seeking to be, the other traits lose their luster” (Ten Traits of Thriving Congregations by Rev. Dr. Erin C. Cash).
So what is our congregation’s mission?
What do we value?
Can the lay people in the congregation articulate the mission?
How do we know that we can?
What does the community know about our mission?
How might we clarify the mission and values for the people in our church and in our community?
