Why I Support U&I for USI
by Michele McGuirl
I’ve been a member of FCC-Cheyenne for about two years and am in awe of the congregation’s commitment to celebrating its 100-year anniversary by helping to build a home for teen moms while they finish high school. I have been a single mom my entire life; my daughter (Pastor Aerii) started kindergarten the same day I returned to college.
Our financial struggles during that time have provided lots of sermon stories, but also (I hope) inspired my daughter to work hard and pursue her own dreams. And through it all, our church family was there for us – with prayers, camp scholarships, and even an elk!
It’s humbling to be part of another church family that helps the teen moms at USI as they finish their education while parenting full-time. These girls need our financial support and prayers as they pursue their education, which is so important for getting a good job and creating a stable family life.
So as we begin Advent, please consider giving to U&I for USI.
I’m praying that together, we can live out the words of the hymn Bethlehem Highway:
There is hope on Bethlehem Highway for the ones who will journey there.
And the hope is a child in a manger bringing us love beyond compare.
It’s a lifeline for the needy, it’s a sight to those who can’t see.
It’s a freedom for the faithful in a child of prophecy.'
