Where is God calling us toserve?

It was only a few days ago that the 2024 Regional Assembly for the Central Rocky Mountain Region happened. And yes, I did take a very hard two hour nap after I got home Sunday afternoon. It was busy, but the church was alive with voices and energy and excitement. It’s the first time that we’ve hosted in decades, and I do believe it was well worth it.

Because relationships were built, and that excitement of being with those who are going through the same things we are, of understanding that we’re not alone in this journey was right there in front of us. It’s impossible to miss.

I was having a conversation with Terry Ewing from Phillips Seminary, and he said that the churches that are thriving now are congregations that have once single focus, that have found their purpose and meaning within their context.

And that’s not that far off from what we’re doing, is it?

It’s not that all ministries aren’t important, but having a narrower focus allows us to truly understand what we’re here for and why. Yes, the answer is we’re here to worship God, to be a blessing to others, to serve the community of Cheyenne.

But which way is God calling us to serve?
What lessons do we need to hear from the scriptures?
What hopes do we need to carry in our hearts for the future?
Who do we feel needs to hear the message of God’s love the most in Cheyenne?

These are all the questions we’re asking and more, and we’re listening, deeply, for God’s voice to fill in those blank answers for us. Unfortunately, that takes time. It’s not something that comes about quickly, and it takes a lot of intentional discernment. But we’re here, and we’re waiting on an answer, and we’re hoping that the future we’ll find with God, that the ministry we’ll do, will be just as impactful for those being served as those who are doing the serving.
