Town Hall Recap

We met on February 4th at Highlands Presbyterian Church for a town hall meeting to discuss the finances of the church.

The point of meeting at Highlands instead of in our building was to remember that we are a congregation first and we connect with the church building second. We can be church outside of these walls.

We had great attendance and discussed the fact that we have 4.3 years of reserves left before we will be out of money to support our budget.

4.3 years.

That will come before we know it.

We have on average about a $32,000 deficit every year for the last 4 years.

The conversation quickly turned into potential options and dreaming of ways that we can survive as a congregation and perhaps even thrive. We discussed tightening our belts with our current budget by watching what we spend, renting out the building more to others who might be able to use it, making the fellowship hall a commercial kitchen to rent out, potentially selling the building as that is a place where the budget is strained.

The selling of the building came with the idea of purchasing a smaller building, better for our size, one we can afford, and having a surplus from the sale of this building to continue our ministries going forward.

No decisions were made.

The conversation was excellent, deep, and open to the movement of the Holy Spirit.
